Brevity

.. is something I seem to lack.

I've been trying to update the blog ever since the last post. Seriously, I've started half a dozen articles on various subjects.

They all seem to hit their stride around the 2500 word mark.

Now personally, I'm not a big fan of the wall-o-text. At least not online. Okay, so maybe I read technical papers for fun, and have been known to snarf through the whole Lord of the Rings series in one (admittedly long) sitting. My online media consumption is more.. nimble.

I haven't measured it precisely (that's Randall Munroe's gig), but I'd say my casual interest has a half-life of about 500 words. I'll give just about anything that much attention, but only half of what I see carries my interest to the 1000 word point. Half of those will keep me for 1500 words, and so on.

So when we pass 30:1 odds that even I want to read my own work from start to finish, we have what you might call a problem.

I don't know how to solve that problem yet -- maybe dividing the work into sections with headers so people can at least see the structure -- but I'm working on it.

For now, gotta go to work.
